Description: A member of the coffee family, a relatively small tree (up to 15 feet tall) with giant, glossy, thick veined leaves.
Landscape and Care: Full Sun – Partial Shade – Minimal Watering, especially once established in ground.
Cultural Uses: Hawaiians used the red pigment from the bark and the yellow pigment from the roots to dye kapa. The juice from the fruit was used in a medicinal drink as a remedy for tuberculosis and in another drink to counter any unpleasant effects of ‘awa.
