Heart-shaped and round leaves, bright yellow cup-shaped flowers with red centers.
The flowers last for one day, starting off yellow in the morning and fading to red by the afternoon.
Makes a great natural barrier.
The sap and various parts of the flower are used medicinally.
During warfare in ancient Hawai’i, a kahuna would lead the battle the battle procession carrying a branch like a flag. Narrow branches were also used for practice spears.
